A great traveler, not only through his professional activities but above all out of pure passion, once in love with Norway, the lecturer Jacques Lachance knew the Côte-Nord in 1967, returned there many times by taking route 15 (now 138) until in 1972, he flew for the first time from Sept-Îles to Natashquan aboard a DC-3 from Les Ailes du Nord.

It is from this year that the discovery of this exceptional maritime corner of maritime Quebec will be transformed into pure attachment for the region then known as “the Lower North Shore”. He took up residence there and, accumulating sometimes eccentric experiences, he began to get involved in communication and then in tourism with the Innu Nation, the families of pioneers and fishermen living in the villages of this coast “before the road”. (episodes from 1976, 1996, 2013 and +). Since then, he has never ceased to travel by plane, by boat and by road, the coastal sector between Sept-Îles and Blanc-Sablon without forgetting the mythical Île d’Anticosti that his great-grandfather Ulric Barthe, writer and journalist, had visited in the very early 1900s at the time of the wealthy king of chocolate, Henri Menier.

During his brief lectures containing many anecdotes, Jacques Lachance shares with us his discoveries, his knowledge of the two societies living side by side, bringing us back to parts of history, introducing us to the geology of the region, the seasons , to the changes that have taken place in just a few decades, with some elements relating to the fauna, flora, fishery resources, languages spoken and the developments underway in this year when you can no longer easily go everywhere, unless…

Available to answer any questions regarding the discoveries still to be made in Minganie, Anticosti and the Lower North Shore, tourism consultant and developer, still a guide in his spare time, he has the qualifications required to advising people registered for its short daily services, offered Monday to Friday, at 4 p.m. To give us a taste of the “Lower Townships” and the fabulous Islands of the region.

Program from 4:00 PM to 5:15 PM :

  • 4:00 PM – 4:10 PM: Welcome and registration of participants
  • 4:10 PM – 4:15 PM: Welcome speech and Labrador tea or cloudberry tea
  • 4:15 PM – 5:15 PM: Presentation of the region & Question/Answer session

The conference will be held in compliance with the current health measures in the reception hall of L’Escale Lam-Air.

I sink under the weight of the splendour

Would I could describe these conceptions, could impress upon paper all that is living so full and warm within me, that it might be the mirror of my soul, as my soul is the mirror of the infinite God! O my friend — but it is too much for my strength
