Fly over the Mingan Archipelago and land on Anticosti, in the heart of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Island can rightly be called The Flagship of the St. Lawrence.
Here you will see what remains of the first settlement of the famous French chocolatier, Henri Menier, who made this majestic island his kingdom. A place full of treasures, cascades, fossils, and mysterious caves; an island once nicknamed the “Cemetery of the Gulf” because of the many shipwrecks on its shores.
Your guide will take you to see the natural attractions in the centre and western sectors of Anticosti including the village of Port-Menier (230 inhabitants). You will inevitably come across white-tailed deer: “You will have the chance to hand-feed the deer while you’re having your morning coffee!”
PRACTICAL TIPS :
ESSENTIAL ITEMS TO PACK:
Walking boots, rainsuit, wool sweater, windbreaker, binoculars, short and long pants, camera, batteries, flashlight, prescription medications, sunglasses, pocket knife, one-day backpack.
Remember: There is no cell phone service on Anticosti, nor between Sept-Iles and Rivière-au-Tonnerre. WIFI access points are available at municipal installations.
In Minganie, cell phone service is available in the villages of Longue Pointe de Mingan, Mingan, Havre St-Pierre and Natashquan. Not every village has a gas station. The distance between villages is sometimes substantial. You must refuel wherever possible before leaving for the next destination. Some villages have charging stations for electric cars. Watch out for wildlife on the highway, it is a real and present danger for all drivers.
