Covering more than 1,000 kilometers from Baie-Comeau to Baie-Johan-Beetz on snowmobile trails maintained by Transport Québec is no small feat! It’s an adventure that includes an off-trail expedition in Minganie. Meet a local Costier who will guide you through a typical experience in the tundra and boreal forest.

Your North Shore package itinerary begins in Baie-Comeau. You can access the North Shore trail network via TQ93 from the Monts-Valin area or, more generally, from Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean (trail 93). If you’re coming from the Quebec City region via TQ3, the Baie-Sainte-Catherine-Tadoussac ferry will help you cross the mouth of the Saguenay Fjord to reach the northern coast. The North Shore also has the only continuous ferry service between the two shores of the St. Lawrence. The N.M. F.-A.-Gauthier connects Baie-Comeau and Godbout to Matane, in Gaspésie, year-round. The ferry welcomes snowmobiles, and you can see snowmobilers embarking and disembarking daily, heading to one side or the other. Be sure to book your crossing to secure your spot on board. Crossing the Manicouagan River, you will travel on the longest snowmobile bridge in North America! At 213 meters (700 feet) long and nearly 28 meters (90 feet) high, snowmobilers love it!
Before arriving in Baie-Comeau, a few kilometers from the village of Portneuf-sur-Mer, you’ll encounter a 30-meter (100-foot) bridge crossing the Portneuf River. At night, the bridge lights up, creating a special atmosphere. Overnight at the Grand Hotel of Baie-Comeau or a similar accommodation.
Head towards Rivière-au-Tonnerre (149 KM) to review the itinerary with Voyages Coste, at 454 Jacques Cartier, Rivière-au-Tonnerre, Phone: 1-877-573-2678 or (418) 465-2002. The trail features several lookout points with river views. Just before arriving in Rivière-au-Tonnerre, you’ll cross a bridge over the scenic Manitou River. Enjoy a stop at Rivière-au-Tonnerre, the gateway to Minganie, to sample local products with the cooperative team and meet the descendants of the sculptor who decorated the beautiful wooden church in the village. Visit to the Saint-Hippolyte church. These encounters with locals aim to share our way of life. Our cooperative team will accompany you remotely as you explore the land of poet Roland Jomphe.
After a dynamic break to warm up and chat with locals, you’ll continue to the capital of Minganie, Havre-St-Pierre, formerly known as Havre aux Esquimaux. The TQ3 trail runs alongside and crosses rivers between Sept-Îles and Havre-St-Pierre, passing through picturesque villages like Magpie, Rivière-St-Jean, Longue-Pointe-de-Mingan, and Mingan.
Upon your arrival in Havre-St-Pierre (100 KM), in the land of the Cayens, you’ll be greeted by locals who are eager to provide you with a sustainable tourism experience in their fully self-sufficient cabins, located near the snowmobile trail. Continental breakfast is included in your cabin. Refueling upon arrival at the stopover point is always recommended.
Havre-St-Pierre has several dining options, with restaurants open seven days a week until 9 p.m.
Guided adventure to immerse yourself in the Taiga with your professional guide, certified by Aventure Écotourisme Québec standards. Snow and blizzards blanket the landscape, offering impressive horizons. Meet locals, pioneers of the northern wilderness, who will reveal the vastness before your eyes. This excursion is designed to provide an authentic experience in the land of the Cayens. Stop at the end of the TQ3 trail in Baie-Johan-Beetz, return to Havre-St-Pierre, and meet a Coster for a typical experience in the tundra and boreal forest. Ice fishing and a tasting at the cayenne will give you a taste of the local flavors. From tasting the famous Gin Betchouan, a local distillery favorite, to hearing regional anecdotes, you’ll leave with warm memories at the edge of the Mingan Archipelago.
Before heading home, you can take a detour through Natashquan, Mingan, Longue-Pointe de Mingan, and then the Moisie River. Arrive in Sept-Îles for lunch before continuing on to Port-Cartier. Stay at Le Q’Artier hotel.
