Come discover with Voyages CoSte and the Desgagnés group, the North Shore up to the Labrador border at Blanc-Sablon.

Aboard the M/V Bella Desgagnés, a 63-cabin vessel commissioned in 2013 by Relais Nordik, experience the atmosphere in each of the ports along the coast. The Bella Desgagnés, a supply ship for the Lower North Shore, makes a round trip every week between Rimouski and Blanc-Sablon.

Its stops in Sept-Îles, Havre-Saint-Pierre, Natashquan, Kegaska, Blanc-Sablon and in each village not connected to the road network will allow you to discover a unique way of life.

Schedule – M/V Bella Desgagnés

The Bella Desgagnés makes the trip from Rimouski to Blanc-Sablon (round trip) starting in April, for 44 trips a year.

The schedule is subject to change depending on navigation conditions and the duration of ship’s dockside operations. Therefore, stopovers are determined by the time required to load and unload the goods.

Since the schedule is in no way guaranteed, we advise you to plan a 48-hour interval if you need to take another means of transport at the end of your trip.

Residents of each of these communities have designed interesting tours that give you an otherwise inaccessible perspective on their way of life.

Walk along the docks facing Ouashat Bay and the Seven Islands Archipelago, with pauses to discover the city by way of interpretation panels or anecdotes and historical information provided by your guide.

SEPT-ÎLES BY MINIBUS, CAPITAL OF THE MIDDLE NORTH SHORE

Stopover every Tuesday morning (rate $86/person + taxes) from May 07 to September 24, 2024, inclusively:

  • Approximately 130 – 150 minutes.

Discover various aspects of the “Capital of the Middle North Shore” where members of the Innu First Nation, living here for thousands of years, rub shoulders daily with the “Seven-Islanders”, sons and daughters of families from the other side of the river, from the Magdalen Islands and from many other places up and down the St. Lawrence.

If Sept-Îles was long perceived as an industrial city associated with iron ore, its history reveals unsuspected aspects related to the fur trade, fisheries, forestry, and a NORAD radar station.

The tour includes visits to the Regional Museum and the Historic Trading Post.

ANTICOSTI - MOONLIGHT TASTING AT THE MUSQUARO SMOKEHOUSE

A short moonlight visit of Port-Menier and then off to the Musquaro Smokehouse. This tour will allow you to understand the process of cold smoking according to a traditional, local method. At the end of your visit, savour the exquisite taste of one of the products prepared by the Master Smoker at Musquaro.

MINGAN SAFARI - FROM HAVRE-SAINT-PIERRE TO KEGASKA

Stopover every Wednesday, early in the morning (rate $209/person + taxes). From May 22 to September 18, 2024, inclusively.

A unique opportunity for passengers on the Bella Desgagnés to enjoy an extended layover and explore over 200 km of the Mingan region with a local guide.

NEW for the 2024 tourist season, Voyages Coste is offering a 200km mini safari from Havre-Saint-Pierre to Kegaska, an English-speaking fishing village at the eastern limit of Route 138 and the gateway to Quebec’s Lower North Shore.

The program includes an audio production, a picnic lunch, contact with the Innu of Nutashquan (“Where we hunt bears”), a guided tour of Natashquan’s museums and heritage sites, and a little free time before reboarding the ship in Kegaska in mid-afternoon.

You will experience the beauty and delicious perfumes of salt air, of Black Spruce, Juniper and Labrador Tea that are characteristic of the dunes and taiga stretching between the mythic villages of Baie-Johan-Beetz, Aguanish, and Natashquan, which so inspired one of Quebec’s greatest native poets and songwriters.

HARRINGTON HARBOUR WALKING TOUR – “LA PETITE SÉDUCTION”

Thursday morning stopover ($21.74/person + taxes) from June 27 to August 29, 2024, inclusively;

Stroll along the wooden sidewalks of this island community that fascinated the world, thanks to the funny and popular film, La Grande Séduction (Seducing Doctor Lewis, for the English-speaking world).

As they show you around the village, your local guide will amuse you with some stories about making a big film on their tiny island. You will visit the docks and learn about the local seafood processing plant and the fishermen who built it, about the little protestant church where all faiths are invited to celebrate, the hospital and its attached helicopter pad, the new water distribution system and the fire that almost spelled the end for the community of Harrington Harbour. You will hear the amazing tale of Marguerite de la Roque and more. Visit includes access to Rowsell House Interpretation Center where you may purchase souvenirs.

TÊTE-À-LA-BALEINE BY MINIBUS

Stopover every Thursday around noon (Rate $55/person + taxes) from May 02 to October 10, 2024, inclusively:

Discover one of the three French-speaking communities of the Lower North Shore and learn what daily life is like for residents. Your local guide will show you, among other things, the school, the heliport, the church, and the village’s unusual emergency response system.

A few stops are also planned to enjoy the view of the water and the islands on the 11 km road between the village and the port.

LA TABATIÈRE AND MUTTON BAY BY MINIBUS

Embark with a local guide and their young student assistant from the community to learn more about this village with Innu and Scottish origins.

You will have the chance to travel to Baie-des-Moutons (Mutton Bay), a small, picturesque village connected by road to La Tabatière.

IMPORTANT: If the Bella Desgagnés’ stopover time is shortened, the Mutton Bay visit will be replaced by other activities.

Spend a morning in the far east of the province. Your local guide will take you to many places including the beautiful Brador Falls, the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes Shrine and the Labrador border.

In high season, you will also be able to discover two small exhibits on the history of the region.

BLANC-SABLON AND BONNE ESPÉRANCE - ON THE FORGOTTEN RTE 138

Enjoy the sub-arctic wonders on this scenic route. Your local guide will take you along the orphaned section of Route 138 from the Blanc-Sablon ferry docks, through the communities of Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon, Brador, and Middle Bay, to the Salmon Bay Scallop Farm where you will have a guided tour of the facilities and a taste of the freshest seafood you’ve ever eaten.  Several photo ops are scheduled on the return route.

Discover the history of this mythic island, 17 times the size of the island of Montreal. See the foundations of the Château Menier, the Louis Jolliet commemorative plaque and visit the village’s boutique featuring the work of local craftsmen. Learn about the island lifestyle. Keep an eye out for deer. You can purchase food for them – they will sometimes approach and eat from your hand.

Important to know

  • The duration of each tour may vary depending on the actual docking time of the ship and weather conditions.
  • The price indicated excludes taxes and is valid for one person. Tips to guides and drivers are at your discretion.
  • Some tours are offered in English, others in French, depending on the official language spoken in each village. We constantly educate our members on the importance of functional bilingualism.
  • The excursions must be purchased at the latest on Sunday before the departure from Rimouski. The capacity of reception in the villages is limited.
  • The list of participants is given to the ROMM animators the Monday morning of the departure from Rimouski.
  • The mosquito repellent will potentially be your best friend.
  • Please bring good walking shoes, warm clothes, raincoat, sun cream, a camera
  • The departure time of each excursion will be confirmed by the ROMM animators.
  • The return trip is always scheduled in time for the departure of the ship.
  • Some excursions are during meal times, check the schedule.
  • It is possible that some of the excursions presented in this document may not be available every week.
  • For credit card payments, the amount is taken at the time of the reservation. The money is placed in a trust account. A receipt will be sent to you by email.

Payment and Refund Policies for Plans.

A confirmation of the reservation is sent to the passenger after the Carrier has received 100% of the total cost of the boarding pass, all in accordance with the Carrier’s policies. An amount of 15% of the total cost of the reservation up to a maximum of $350 is non-refundable. Payment must be made by credit card. Only Visa and MasterCard credit cards are accepted.

Excluding the non-refundable portion of 15% of the total cost of the reservation up to a maximum of $350, all purchases are refundable up to 49 days before the scheduled date of travel. It is possible to change the date of the trip according to availability or request a credit valid for one year up to 28 days before the planned date of the trip.

An administrative charge of 5% of the total cost of the reservation up to a maximum of $150 (plus taxes) is payable and must be paid by the customer to make the change or apply for a travel credit valid for a period of one year (payable upon change).

In the event that Relais Nordik has to cancel a trip or if you are unable to travel due to illness (covid-19 or other, upon presentation of a medical certificate), the amount is fully refunded or credited for a trip l ‘Next year.

Are there guided tours and excursions to the villages?

During the summer period, la Coopérative de solidarité en tourisme équitable (CoSte) organizes shore excursions for a fee.

There are no reservations on board, so please reserve in advance by calling 1-877-573-2678.

Are the villages within walking distance?

Some villages are located a few kilometers from the ports and are therefore inaccessible on foot.
